Our calculator uses a modern approach to determining a dog's age in human years, based on recent scientific research. This method acknowledges that dogs mature much faster in their early years than humans do, and then their aging process slows down. The calculation is also adjusted based on the dog's weight, as smaller and larger breeds age at different rates, especially in their later years.
The old rule of thumb that one dog year equals seven human years is a vast oversimplification. It doesn't account for the rapid development in a dog's first two years of life or the significant differences in lifespan and aging between breeds. For example, a one-year-old dog is equivalent to a 15-year-old human, not a 7-year-old. Our calculator provides a much more accurate and nuanced estimate by considering these crucial factors.
